USA vs Europe: Golf Gets Personal!
Forget individual leaderboards for a weekend – it’s USA vs Europe at the 2026 Solheim Cup!
The Solheim Cup began in 1990 and is the women’s equivalent of the Ryder Cup. The event was created by Karsten Solheim, founder of PING, alongside his wife Louise, with the competition designed to bring the same team spirit and drama of the Ryder Cup to women’s golf.
And there is plenty of history behind it.
Team USA currently leads the overall head-to-head 11–8, with the Americans also heading into 2026 as the defending champions after beating Europe 15½–12½ in 2024.
First time in the Netherlands
This year’s tournament heads to Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands, marking the first time the Solheim Cup has been played in the country. The championship course is known for its strategic design and previously hosted the KLM Open on the DP World Tour.
The format is also what makes the Solheim Cup so much fun to watch – and bet on.
The first two days feature foursomes and four-ball, where players compete in pairs, before Sunday’s action switches to 12 singles matches. Every match is worth a point, with 14½ points required to win the Cup. If it finishes 14–14, the defending champions keep the trophy.
Players to watch
For Team USA, it’s hard to look past Nelly Korda.
The world No. 1 is one of the biggest names in women’s golf and has already won two majors in 2026. She’ll be one of the key players Europe will want to keep quiet.
Europe have their own superstar in Charley Hull.
The English fan favourite topped Europe’s Solheim Cup points list during qualifying and will be making her eighth Solheim Cup appearance. She has already collected 16½ points from 27 matches in the competition.
And there’s a nice bit of recent history here: Hull famously beat Korda in their singles match during the 2024 Solheim Cup.
What could matter for bettors?
This isn’t your normal golf tournament. Matchplay changes everything.
A player doesn’t need to shoot the lowest score in the entire field – they simply need to beat the golfer standing opposite them.
That makes match winners, team totals and individual player markets particularly interesting.
The opening two days also make foursomes and four-ball pairings worth watching. A strong partnership can be just as important as having the biggest individual star.
USA or Europe?
The Americans have the historical advantage and are defending champions.
Europe have home-region conditions, a passionate crowd and Charley Hull leading the charge.
With just a few points separating the teams on paper, this could be another Solheim Cup that goes right down to the wire.
